Wheel Bolts

Mark is looking for bolts and it has become complicated. I'm going to capture parts of the discussion here for future reference.Hello Victor ,I can not find the proper wheel bolts for my car . Tim did a lot of leg work to find them which I appreciate . I looked at Classic and Exotic Cars and they have a Chrysler Bolt that matches the Royale bolt but my budget cannot justify $19. per bolt X 28 bolts plus the dollar exchange . http://www.classicandexotic.com/store/p-158-1931-chrysler-imperial-lug-bolt.aspxThere is 7 bolts per wheel X 4 wheels = 28 . So Tim suggested I use machine the John Deere bolts to size . The diameter and thread count is the same .All that is involved is removing the tapered shoulder and cut to length which my machinist says he can do with no trouble at all .If you look at the picture I sent . The black bolt in the middle is the original Royale bolt and the one with the taper is the JD bolt . The bolt on the right is from a parts store with no shank all threads .So that is what i am going to do . I will let you know how I make out . Maybe I will have a sample for Ohio . Thanks , Mark

Hi Mark,

The other guys will be able to confirm, but on most older cars, there are left threaded nuts on one side of the car and right threaded on the other, donâ€™t ask me which on which side, cause I donâ€™t remember. In fact in many older cars, the bolts are marked R or L. Just make sure you check on that before purchasing the whole lot.

I am interested in your findings, as I will be needing to source a set also.

On Joe A's suggestion I purchased two regular 9/16 - 18 bolts and ground the head off to a point .When I went to reinstall my wheels I hung it on these 2 pins .Yes John it makes a huge difference . As you are not struggling to hold the tire and rim and align the 7 bolt holes .If I do it again I would use longer bolts . As these were only 3 1/2 inch bolts .Mark

From Tim:

Checked both sides of my vehicle, (Left & Right), removed wheel bolts on both sides. REO, used right hand thread on wheel bolts on both sides. John Deere bolts was just an option that I thought of.

I took someone's suggestion and I bought a bag of John Deere bolts off of Ebay. The head is the same as on the Royale, 3/4". The length is within 1/16" of being the same as the Royale one. I think all that has to be done is to remove the shoulder and about 1/4" of the threads. John
