Thermostat

So my shutters were stuck shut which caused a bit of an issue when I left it running the first day in 85 degree weather. Now that we have things apart there were 3 distinct problems.1. The shutters themselves need to be lubed and freed.2. The thermostat was missing the arm that goes from the rod to the shutters.3. My thermostat looks like the below picture.You can get rebuilt thermostats from Brian Joseph http://www.classicandexotic.com/ but they are pricey (375.00) and require a trade in. We were able to rebuild mine and get it working again. My housing was cracked and shot, but that is also shared with Model J Duesenberg and I was lucky to have a spare lying around and also had the missing arm.

Did the Royale originally have the Pines Winterfront emblem on the thermostat?

A.J. I wondered the same thing about the Pines Emblem . My arm has be be remade and my discs were cleaned up and ready to go . The shaft in the white metal housing has broken at the bearing location . The original graphite packing must have seized on the shaft . My machinist is going to replace it with some high temperature O ring bearing . The bottom water return in my radiator is rotted out and has to be replaced .

Steve Kelly has very graciously mailed me an original Reo "Mechanic Instruction Book" printed in August 1930. I don't know if this information is available as reproduction but it is very cool. There is a section on the 30-35 (which may have been added later) that has the royale engine and chassis. If anyone needs any material posted please let me know.Here is a picture from the manual on the thermostat.

Mark, there was 2 pages of text that refereed to the diagram and explained how to adjust the system. I dropped off the manual at my shop this morning so I don't have it right with me. I'll make a copy of those pages and post them here.

A.J. I assume you had your radiator out of your Royale . My radiator was sitting right on the car frame . There was no rubber under the lower tank for a cushion for wear and tear . What did your radiator sit on please .

The radiator was sitting on some cloth like material which does not provide much buffering. When we reinstall the radiator we will replace the cloth with rubber.
