Mark is trying to find a center molding for his hood. There is some confusion as mine and it looks like all 8-35 cars have a tapered molding down the center of the hood. However, we have a picture of a 8-31 where the molding does not look tapered. The trim on my car is 44 5/8 inches long which I assume would be the same as the 8-35. Mark, how long is the hood on a 8-31? I have assumed the 4 inch wheelbase difference comes out of the cowl not the hood. Here is one on ebay that Mark was looking at (which is different than my car): http://www.ebay.com/itm/CENTER-HOOD-HINGE-48-IN-LONG-STAINLESS-STEEL-U-16632-/251643134034Thoughts?From John:I have been studying the hoods. Yes the center chrome piece measures 3/4" at the front and 1 1/2" at the 'crows foot chrome piece"I think that the center 'chrome' piece could be made out of a piece of stainless molding. It is tapered front to back in withth and has a slight curve of the outside to serve as a hinge for the top piece. Speaking about the top hood pieces. They are a wedge shape the narrow end goes to the radiator and the wider end goes to the cowl, so there is a right hand side and a left hand side. The inside surface is curved (like the center chrome piece, but reverse (I think) to make a hinge like affair using the center of the hood and the chrome piece mated together. The chrome piece goes on with both halves of the hood on the floor standing up, with the radiator (short end) facing the ceiling. As for the connection to make the hinge between the top of the hood and the hood sides, they are connected with a `1/4" stainless steel rod. Kind of like a piano hinge.Of course, the lower part of the hood for the 8-31 Royale is not the same as the 8-35 in design. The 8-31 has formed louvers and the 8-35 has louver doors.
