FARVAL HIGH PRESSURE CHASSIS LUBRICATOR

The REO Royale is equipped with a Bijur like chassis lubrication system made by Farval. Here is the txt from the brochure.

No more crawling under. Gone is the dirty, disagreeable chassis grease job. Gone is the uncertainty of whether all points are getting proper lubrication. No more delays and repair jobs due to neglect of chassis bearings.

THE Farval High Pressure Chassis Lubricator is an automatic, centralized control system, providing complete lubrication to the spring bolts, king pins, and to all chassis bearings.

One pull of the control rod, operated from the driver's seat, lubricates every bearing included in the Farval System, and this operation can be performed as easily at 60 miles per hour as when the car is standing idle.

High Pressure and Heavy Lubricant

The Farval Chassis Lubricator is a better system of lubrication—because it operates at high pressure and distributes heavy lubricant.

Farval is better—because the high pressure is actually utilized to force the lubricant into the bearings.

Farval is better—because the high pressure delivery of lubricant insures positive lubrication for the tight bearing as well as the loose bearing—positive lubrication for all bearings under all conditions.

FARVAL — DRIVER'S CONTROL

Now, simply pull the Farval Plunger as shown above, every 100 miles or more often if desired and all chassis bearings instantly and automatically receive a fresh charge of heavy lubricant at high pressure.

Farval is better—because heavy oils are superior to light oils or grease for chassis lubrication, and Farval is the one system that distributes heavy oils successfully.

Light oils, which must be applied much more frequently, do not provide the protective film obtained with the heavier lubricant used in the Farval System.

Farval is better—because the high pressure delivery of a measured charge of fresh, clean lubricant, with each operation of the Farval system, automatically flushes out all dirt, moisture, etc., from every bearing.

Dirt or other foreign matter cannot enter the Farval System. Protection is provided by the use of a removable screen located at the inlet to the central pumping unit, together with a very fine screen at the inlet of each Farval Measuring Valve.

Comfort and Economy

The car equipped with the Farval Chassis Lubricator is a much more comfortable car in which to ride. It is cushioned on a film of heavy oil—always. Ease of steering is maintained at all times, and the life of the chassis bearings is lengthened indefinitely.

Farval contributes one of the most important advances in automotive engineering by eliminating the expensive hand lubrication of the chassis. For the car owner, there are no more costly delays and inconvenience—no more money spent for chassis greasing.

The Farval Chassis Lubricator is guaranteed against all defects in materials and workmanship, and barring damage through accident, it will give continuous, trouble-free service for the life of the car upon which it is installed. It is fully protected by patents granted and pending.

Today, no motor car or truck can be considered complete and truly modern without incorporating a Farval installation.

THE FARVAL VALVE

New Charge Entering Valve

A FARVAL Measuring Valve, located at each bearing, delivers to the bearing the correct amount of lubricant. The size of valve determines the amount of lubricant delivered.

The valve operates on the positive piston displacement principle, and the pressure built up in the supply lines acts on the piston, forcing a measured charge of lubricant into the bearing at high pressure.

The four sectional views of the Farval Valve shown above illustrate the action which takes place.

With each operation of the plunger lubricant is forced through the delivery line Q, passing through screen A and acting on valve piston B. All the lubricant ahead of piston B is forced out past check valve C, and delivered to the bearing. This delivery continues until piston B is seated on valve seat G and the valve is shut off.

It will be noted that this operation delivers a measured charge to the bearing, and after this delivery the valve is positively shut off with no more lubricant passing until the pressure is relieved and the system again operated.

When pressure is relieved in the system and in the delivery lines Q, the spring F moves piston B toward the valve inlet until it reaches the upper limit of its stroke and rests on screen cup assembly A.

The return movement of piston B, due to the clearance provided between piston B and valve body I, causes lubricant to be transferred from the chamber at right of piston B to the spring chamber at left of piston B. Thus each valve is completely loaded with lubricant when the pressure is relieved on the delivery lines and while the system is idle.

Normally the check valve C, under the force of spring E, is held tightly seated against H, preventing any bleeding or leakage of lubricant from the valve while the system is idle, regardless of the jar and vibration of driving.

CENTRAL PUMPING UNIT

SHOWN above is the Central Pumping Unit of the Farval Chassis Lubricator complete with standard one quart reservoir.

One pull of the plunger handle primes the compressor and at the same time compresses the main spring located in the tube housing. When the handle is released, the force of the main spring delivers lubricant at high pressure to the entire system.

The Farval pump is equipped with a special time element device, which maintains pressure on the entire system for a sufficient period of time to insure the positive delivery of heavy lubricant to every point on the chassis, even in zero weather.

A check valve prevents leakage of oil from the supply tank by gravity.
