"Introduction for Dave & Kim Marshall
We are both originally from PA and worked in the Airplane Industry before retiring here in KS.
Looking for something we could do together with the kids, we found a barn find Ford Model T, not running, empty of water, gas, air & oil, full of mice & covered in Owl dung, on a trip to the Mall of America back in the 90’s. The farmer needed “cash money†for irrigation tile, and a deal was struck.
Subsequently we got wind of some “old REO’s†for sale from a 90 + retiring Owner, that didn’t run and hadn’t run for some time, but “were all thereâ€. The catch we later found out was the owner insisted they had to stay together, instant fleet ! We figured they would be a good multi-year project. At the time we didn’t know anything about REO cars or the Club, but it was apparent that the cars were solid.
Fast forward we got the REO’s home, and one by one got them running. As many of you know in this hobby, much is learned through word of mouth; contacts, sources, how-to do things etc. For us, just seeing another REO was and still is a great event, another chance to crawl under, look over, or peak under the hood.
And so the REO Club has been the most valuable resource, and fun too. The meets provide us an opportunity to pal around fellow enthusiasts and to see and hear first-hand, how these cars are supposed to look and run, and the “model experts†are invaluable to talk to for how-to and who to call etc.
Now as history repeats, we got a call a few weeks ago from a stranger asking if I knew anything about a ""REO Royal""; (yes I know its Royale :)
Seems this Hot-rodder picked up a 31 Royale Sedan at a local auction, and after looking it over felt guilty about chopping it up, and wanted to know if I'd like to have it...:) The car is mostly all there but has been sitting over 20 years, it doesn't run, brakes don't work, paint is bad etc, but its not stuck.
We are just starting to dig into it, and don't have any manuals or experience with this model, so we will have lots of questions !
Your assistance and thoughts will be appreciated.
We look forward to seeing you in Traverse City !
Best Regards
